And I'm not saying I'm putting down the DS, it's I think Ninendo finaly has competition, oh and the guy about the sega stuff, you have to remember Nintendo was makeing systems and good games before sega came out, so no one really looked at what the sega handheld could do, and no one was really looking at games like we do today, they never expected to last this long. I know that. That's also part of the reason why the Dreamcast fell. Great graphics & ahead of the game (N64 & PS1 were still out; also had built-in modem), but it got blown away by the next wave of next-gen consoles. Back to DS vs PSP. . . Sure, the DS graphics may not be the best, yet, but you have to remember a few things: the N64 started out with avarage grahics. Nintendo pushed it farther and did what they could to improve the graphics of their games (remember the memory pack expantion?). Who's to say they won't push the DS to the edge and produce some great quality games? Also the DS library will expand to be more than just "remakes," obviously, so don't mark the DS down just for it's initial titles. The DS has the potential to be a great handheld system.

This seems to be a rather heated argument. I of couse will go for whichever one: A- Has more RPG's/ Old School Platformers, B- Looks Purtier.

I'll go for the DS. I think the PSP just sucks.

Well, personally, I'm going for the PSP. I think it looks very nice, and the games look pretty good. Of course, I'll be getting the GameboyDS as well, cause the new design pictures that came out look pretty awesome too. But getting the gameboy is more of a trained response, since I've been a Nintendo fan for a long time. Guess I'll just have to wait and see, buy them both when they come out. ;D

Nintendo always publishes basic games like mario when they first design a product. Later on, they will find useful ways to use the 2 screens and use it to make games. (IE: James BOND-> On one screen.. you can have the map of room. On the Other screen you can have the main game screen with the guns. On a handheld if you displayed the map it would be too small to see.. if you have another screen then it would be easier.

The DS is inferior to the PSP in terms of graphics, those who say the graphics will improve with time need to keep in mind that this holds for both the PSP and the DS. The gap will always exist, and unless the laws of physics bend over the DS will always be inferior to the PSP in terms of graphics since it does have slower hardware and a crapier screen (lower resolution and less colors, even when you add up both of the DS’s lcds). The DS asfaik will use a cartridge while the PSP uses cds (probably more like mini-dvds but that’s besides the point) so that gives even more graphic potential to the PSP.
The DS is not a successor to the GBA and as such isn’t supposed to be competitor to the PSP in terms of graphics. I assume the DS only exists to prevent the PSP from becoming too popular.

Haha...I missed this thread. o.O In anycase, someone get me some statistics here and not "I think" "I saw" "This thingy" etc. True, discs can hold more data, but you've also gotta incorporate what the system itself has to run everything. And what's the size of the screen on the PSP? I mean..it's "Portable" REALLY portable, and more space is taken up by buttons, and who knows what else. Yes, I'd love to watch my newly bought "slightly cheaper" movie on this mini screen which I can then hold 4 inches from my face to get a better view. Hand held games normally had lower graphics than consoles, which means you didn't really need a huge screen to see everything clearly. When you start adding in all these nice graphics, things are gonna get so small you'll miss things. Especially if we're talking about PS2+ graphics as posted earlier. Even on TV those things are hellishly detailed, cram that onto a 2 inch screen and see if you can find everything. Graphics asides, the entire point of portable is to play your system without an AC power source. Ok, now...let's see you're on a plane, train, or some other method of transportation, heading somewhere that....god forbid takes more than 2 or 3 hours, and you watch your movie on your PSP and fry your battery. Crap! Screwed. This is all based on previous statements because...no one's listed any real stats and I'm too lazy to go look them up. Buuuut based on the facts here....having the DVD aspect is pointless. I like the music idea. Especially if you could say, play MP3's while playing your game. Override the sound persay. I don't see that as being an option, but I like the idea. Or even if you just get bored of playing your game, and you'd rather listen to music. DVD. Still. Pointless. Next...price....price.....So...I could buy....almost....3 DS's...for one...of your PSP.....damn. I wonder. lol. Or at least a DS, a bunch of accessories, an MP3 player, and maybe a game or two...for your...PSP....That single price difference is gonna kill the PSP. Heck, it's coming out more expensive than starting prices on consoles when they're first released. Price is a huge factor for most people. Then there's the Nintendo name...."What's Nin..Ten..DoH?" lol. I think I've owned every Nintendo system...minus the GBA SP...which I will be obtaining...shortly.... lol. Infact...minus the original NES, I still have every system they've ever made...ahahhaa...ok. Drifting from the point. -.- Graphics = Nice, but quality of Gameplay = More important. While yes...the DS will start with mostly remade games, when has it ever stayed just remade games. Someone mentioned the Dreamcast in here earlier. It really wasn't too ahead of it's time. It was awesome, problem was...the games. There weren't enough out to keep everyone interested. In now with playstation versus other systems. Playstation has a huuuge selection of games, and just in case you didn't have a PS1, but you have a PS2, well that's ok! Cause PS2 still plays PS1 games. Overall the PSP is a nice idea, but it's getting too much hype. "Graphics!" Yes...but on a teeny weeny screen. "DVDS!" Ooo! More money, no battery and reeally....small...."New games!" Doesn't that always come with the advent of a new system? Yes...the DS has a useless touchpad. But seriously...Nintendo isn't likely to add a useless piece of equipment to their system. It'd just cost them more money, which would cost you more money....which isn't good for the consumer. Limited graphics for the DS...but hey, at least you can see them clearly. Yesh...I ranted. lol. But it's just people seem to miss or ignore obvious points and it's like...RAH. I still have my old B/W Gameboy, along with my GBC, GBA, and soon to be GBA SP. I still got my SNES , N64 and the GC. My NES broke and I never bothered to get a new one...but you know what? RC PRO AM RULES. lol. Sooo...if you took all the time to read this...realize all my opinions are based on information listed in these posts. So yeah....so moo, so I'll get a DS...at some point in time when my wallet permits....

If I could I would get both but as it stands I would go for the Nintendo DS, given a choice. Why? I'm thinking SSB remake, new Mario Kart, Metroid Prime Hunters and I'm sure Square will do something. Although they'll do stuff for both as they you know want our cash. I also want a PSP for Armored Core and some other nifty things. On a side note no the DS will not have as good graphics as the Gamecube, from what I've seen. Although Metroid Prime Hunters is close. And from what I've seen the graphics for the PSP will not be as good as the PS2 graphics. Sorry if someone already said this but I'm uh lazy at 6am in the morning. Zzz.

hey, maybe they could be cool and make it an open media... like the linux for ps2 kit that pretended to help! And then we could all live in magical fairy villages with gnome servants and buetiful m8's of our prefered flavor and choosing, never having to do anything more than we wanted to survive.
Or IT could jsut end up like another nomad. The poor beast.
HE he he my magical fairy house has keiidren kittens hehehehe.
And hey, if ur into electronics and have another couple of hundred to spend on lipos and chartging equipment, I think It would be easy and profitable to make addon battery capacity. And maybe some controller ports. Heck while were at it lets just hook it up to a tv and plug it into the wall. /Ha No wait im serious about that first part. One of them. Kittens.

It seems a bit early for conjecture about which is better/more powerful. Developers always say that they're gonna have "All this cool stuff" but frequently they cut out alot because of production costs and the like. I'm gonna wait until they come out and see which has the better equipment and feel to it before I commit to one or the other in particular.

I'm gonna wait until they come out and see which has the better equipment and feel to it before I commit to one or the other in particular. Nintendo is the only one (besides the god of old-school portables, Game Gear and/or Game'n'Watch) who makes portables that aren't a bajillion dollars too much and are straight to the point - no crap about 10 extra options that jack up the price to about $300 a unit. Just the system and its games; that's it. Sony is going to make the mistake I still believe Microsoft did, at least in part, with X-Box: Microsoft put so much crap on X-Box (not to mention made you buy a $20 remote just to watch DVDs,....) that it turned into a zillion dollar 40 lb monster. Oh well. ^,_,^ /\ || That's a kitty smile! NOT A CATFISH!!! BLAAARG!

CATFISH!! Well...they did come out with the Gameboy Jukebox....lol. Walmart's a little retarded. I was there earlier, they're asking $86 for that PoS when you can buy a new SP right next to it for $80 lol. SP, Jukebox...SP...Jukebox....I'm so confused...Well not really. In anycase...as stated, everything I said before was based on what I've learned through other people on this thread. Just drawing simple facts from that. But yes...only time will tell

But of course the prices for the gameboyDS and the PsP are all speculated. I suspect the PsP is not going to cost 300 dollars upon release. If they did.. well, then they're morons. I'd be the Nokia cellphone/gameboy all over again. But we can't really base things on price until it actually comes out.
