Many years ago back at the edges of my memory I saw an anime movie. It's fifteen years later and all I can remember are really tiny fragments of the darn thing.
I'll describe the few scenes that I remember and hopefully somone will know which movie I'm talking about and give me the name of it.
For whoever figues it out I'll see if i can get you a new forum ranking if Tom okay's it.

The earliest scene in the movie that I can remember explains the setting of the movie and the background of the badguy. The badguy was some sort of warrior general (I think) that killed more than a thousand men. This whole think was set to a burning battlefield picture in the background.
(I assume that it was a battle field because the next closest thing would have been a forest fire.)

The next group of scenes.
The main character (Whoever he is) is adopted by a caring family that have no children of their own. He grows up and lives peacefully with his family. One day he returns from a walk only to find his parents murdered. His own sword is siting in the middle of the room covered in their blood. He walks in and picks up the sword and stares at it. Litrally seconds later a neighbour walks by and looks in the door. Seeing the main charater covered in his parent's bood and holding a blood covered sword, he accuses him of having killed his parents.
The main charater then flees, with plans to leave the country and find the murder.
(Who of course has to be the really bad boss type guy.)

Some time later...
The main character is on a row boat on his way out to a western ship. (The ship is a paddle wheeler of the type used in the 1800's. ) A black man is rowing the boat and telling him that the Captain doesn't want any trouble while he's on the ship.

About half way out to the ship a young woman appears running across the water straight towards the good guy. She has an ability that allows her to split into three of her and all attack at once. (This is fairly common in anime now but I had never seen it before this.) The woman and the main charater battle each other untill they endup on the ship. The hero badly wounds the attacker and she passes out from blood loss.
The Captain of the ship is none too happy about having had a battle take place on his ship and and nearly has our hero kicked off the ship. Luckily the Catain is paid off with a small bag of gold coins that the main character had. He then takes the injured woman below deck and looks after her injuries. Durring their voyage she slowly recovers and our main character also becomes friends with the black man that he had met earlier.

The last image in the movie I can remember is with the three good guys standing on a rocky grass covered island facing the giant warrior general guy.
(I know it's really vague.)
If it's any help at all I don't think the bad guy had any hair.
So that's it, not much to go on but it has to be better than nothing. I've been trying to figure this one out for about seven years now and I'm getting tired of it.
