Thousands of years ago, the first Terran Empire was born when a primitive colony ship just barely reached escape velocity and left the gravity well of Earth for the first and last time, many would follow. Each set course for a specific pinpoint of light among the vast sea of stars. The journey to each candidate solar system would take several lifetimes to complete, which the scientists, philosophers, technicians and volunteers that comprised each ship's crew slept away in suspended animation.
It was in this manner that humanity colonized dozens of exotic alien planets, some already teaming with all kinds of native lifes, others barren worlds that would be terraformed to resemble the beautiful blue marble that we bold and adventerous humans called mother. Having previously ended the bloody conflicts that plagued our history and united under the flag of a single nation, a Terran Nation, we brought with us only the ideals of peace and knowledge.
Generation by generation our technology improved, only taking but a few precious seconds to transverse the great distances between solar systems with the invention of instantaneous dimensional jump drives, all disease had been virtually eradicated and common genetic defects disappeared as genetics labratories patched the human genome as a programmer would patch a buggy piece of software. Even with all these advances and changes, we still held onto our humanity.
We laughed, we cried, we fell in love, we never lost site of our origins, never mistakenly called ourselves gods, even as we began to cautiously and responsibly exercise the same powers associated with them. Alas, we still suffered from the same uncurrable condition as ancestors past, we were lonely.
In all our explorations, we had yet to discover another intelligent and sentient form of life, something or someone with which we could converse with, share our fears, our great achievements and terrible failures. Something or someone to share this beautiful, endless and somewhat lonely universe with.
So we created them. Terran culture had always promoted diversity and individuality, so the idea was not as shocking or immoral as you might think, some would say it was inevitable. The project was begun by the giant orbiting ringworld habitats of the inner rim, where the greatest scientific and political minds congregated. With the supervision of the kind, caring and openminded religious leaders of the time, the Terran Geneticists created two entirely new races, their home would be of the highest quality the empire had to offer, tropical isles, forests, rolling plains and hauntingly scerene deserts.
Unknown to them, when the first Keidran kitten opened its eyes, it undoubtably must have stared mesmorized by the raw beauty of the galactic core nebula.
The Terran Empire was a utopia, unfortuntely utopias rarely last...
They came from a bleak and distant galaxy, ruthless and systematic, having wastefully consumed all the native resources. They descended upon the Terran Empire like a plague of locasts. Systematically wiping out human inhabited planets, orbital structures and starships. Almost nothing was spared from the devistation, hundreds of billions of lives lost, entire worlds rendered incapable of supporting even the most basic of bacterial life.
All seemed lost, we had given up our ability to defend ourselves in our attempt to achieve a perfect utopia, what was left of the Empire collapsed. Again and again, the nanotube tethers of the orbital elevators, lifeblood of space travel since we abandoned wasteful and costly chemical reaction based propulsion systems, were severed by laserfire. The muli-ton and many kilo-meters long strands re-entering the atmosphere and hitting the surface with unspeakable devistation.
Luckily, while vicious, our new enemies were far from perfect. As they consumed the resources of our galaxy they overlooked the final destruction of Earth, a handful of colonies and most importantly, a little known planet with no obvious signs of civilization. They eventually left the galaxy, but we have reason to believe they will come back. The survivors of one of the orbital ringworlds had escaped and seeded the world with the two new races, which would eventually become known as the Keidran and the Basitin.
As we understand it, the survivors then settled alongside the two races, existing in peaceful harmony. They had their own children and lives full lives, it has only just been made apparent to me that the survivors of the Terran Empire are the "gods" of folklore. As they began to die out, they saw fit to create three self sufficient artificial intelligences or as they are called, the three masks.
I find myself, unable to possibly imagine what circumstances lead to the programming of the A.I., only that I can say that they are very unpredictable. Already it is evident that they have negatively mettled in the affairs of the three races, first, applying gene patches so that neither Keidran nor Human can procreate. Which they interestingly could do before. They also fostered a war between the Humans and the Keidran, which the Basitin wisely stay out of.
Calling them humans is a bit far fetched, large changes have been made to their basic D.N.A., that seemed to have influenced the growth of well... powers... that even my guardian A.I. has difficulties scientifically... explaining.
The final legacy of the old Terran Empire is here, on this planet, hidden in the three races and the rogue A.I., I believe the key is somehow related with the Humans and the Keidrans former ability to procreate. As the newly constituted Terran Ascendant Empire continues to grow, we must not forget all that was good with the former empire. Even as we delve into the archives of Earth, relearning the horrors of warfare and prepare ourselves for the coming galactic war, we must not forget this planet.
It is therefor that I make the following recommendations to Fleet Command. That we continue to monitor the planet while avoiding any direct contact with the resident species and A.I. and that we wait untill after the Ascendant Empire is no longer just the shattered remains of the Old Empire but a fully fleshed out and experinced political body. Only then will we have the wisedom to act.
I also recommend the permanent assignment of a Heavy Battle Group, complete with Assault Carrier detachment.

P.S. Omarr you have got to see these Keidran females. ;)

Flora entered Trace's tent excited, "Trace! Trace! Come look at the sky!" She grabbed his hand and yanked him outside, he laughed at her antics and looked up. Brillant flashes of light filled almost the whole sky. She asked him, "Do you know what those are?" He shook his head slowly, still staring at the beautiful display. Flora nuzzled him, "Neither do I... but it sure is pretty..."
