How 'bout alpha? Seriously, too many people keep leaving on vacations. The project should be seriously started in about a week, when everyone is back.

By alpha you mean you're asking for QT(Quality testing) people, or you're looking for people who can help you devlope story/suggestions to game? I'm up for help, I can draw a decent picture if you give me three weeks, per, I don't know java very well...
Java seems kind of odd for an engine's language. I don't know much about it, is it as powerful as the mainstream languages for engines? (I.E. C++)

I was level 38 in Ragnarok when it went pvp. Evil people. I broke down the graphics from that game each character had it's own folder, containing 120 pictures each. Fighting poses, walking, running, death, etc etc etc. It was nuts. Needless to say, it's alot of freaking pictures. So the more customizable you want the game, the more pictures you're gonna need

Uh, that's really a sign that Ragnarok might be badly designed more than anything else...
And this is OFFLINE, so unless you're making your own quests(in which case you don't need the old graphics, if it'll even be open) you won't change the stuff.
Edit: Sorry, i meant because you can get frames without a seperate picture for each one. I'm going to shut up now though, until I've played it. (a.k.a. forever)

The reason each character had so many pictures was to be complex. It wasn't badly designed at all. If you have too little of pictures (say the walking set of animations), your walking looks jittery or robotic. The more pictures you have in the animations, obviously the more fluid the motions can look. And the only reason I took apart the files were 1) Too see just how many files were in each character, and 2) So I could make my own character, based off the the current character I had. Which I did even though it was pointless.

If you modded your character on ragnarok, would it show up as you modded it to other players online? I heard you could do that in the game called "thier"

No it wouldn't. What happens is the game looks for specific files on your computer to run the graphics for the game. Now if I modded one of the characters and kept the file name the same, it would most likely look at that file to run those set of graphics. In which case, say I modded the "swordsman" character. Everytime a "swordsman" would enter my screen they would look like my modded character because the files on my computer are that of the modded. Now to someone else, who has the normal graphics, they're game would load the files from their computer showing the normal character. So really...too sum up all of what I said simply....No, it would only show up to you. lol.

Howdy yall .. im new round these parts.. thoroughly enamored with the comic, n decided 2 check out the forums, fuel the obsession n whatnot. Came upon this post, this kinda thing seems right up my alley. Ive got plenty of spare time and if this project became a bit more open id like to help out. Heck, if I can play S03 for 8 hours a day and go to classes, then ive probably got nuthin better to do. Im into the Java, or c++, but really I havnt seen any sort of discussion. If its all behind closed doors, how r peopel going to help ;p

Games are hard to make, I spent a month just makign a simple flash game, I'd be willing to help anyway I can, but if this happens I hope it happens right and isnt just a crap churn out. I mean, this is twokinds, it deserves greatness, so we gotta deliver(sp?).

need design lol .... Id kinda like something based around the s.p.e.c.i.a.l system.. but wed need our own rules.. that could take a while but the end result would be infinetely cool when paired with a good game setup, but haviong anysort of large / invovled game requires well, being mad involved
talk about engine requirements abit.. I like the idea of using java 2 do it, could be rather straightforward double buffered n sprites, map made up of tiles or somesuch, or even better each mpa be handdrawn with an underlay of where u can go n such, then some sort of grid by grid of contents or somesuch... idea in infancy
