I might have been inspired by 'Black Tapestries' but I can imagine that after Trace finds out how long Flora's natural life span is that he'll make it his life's mission to give her a human's life span in the 'easist' way possible. For Flora of course it would be the same thing as being offered immortality. (Just imagine if you had someone you loved who was going to live at least four times longer than you and offered you the same lease on life.) Of course Flora is already promised to someone, and changing species to be with someone who she was supposed to have killed by now would be seen as the final betrayal.
I wonder how Keith and Flora's races are different. Maybe they were genetically engineered by different companies for different uses. (One domestic, the other military. Yea, yea, Transformers: Autobots and Decepticons.)

The OTHER possibility is of course is that Flora will live longer than Trace. But this is unlikely since if you want to create a race of slaves --and are unable to breed out freewill-- you don't want them to live longer than their masters.
