Yeah, I'm a character/vehicle modeler myself. Although I like the whole concept art thing too.

Where would one get these programs?
I can find them anywere online, and being the stingy bastard that I am, I cringe in fear at the thought of buying them. Anybody got a link where I can get them?

3D Max is the cheapest *Good* 3D program out there... I'm not gonna give links of where to find a 'free' download, but if you can find it yourself, I won't stop ya! I get ROMS occasionally... OMG I said nothing! *Assaulted by more Gaia mods* NOOOO ARGH!&!#&!! *Boom*

You should make models and skins for games

It's really expensive because it's top end. It lets do you do more than 3DS Max and more companies (Both games and movies) use Maya, so they can charge more. As it's been established that way, it's easier to sell. Unless you start getting absurd...."$50,000 for Maya, please buy."

Hey now, I was thinkin' of a 3D prog that is open source or somethin'. HAH! There is one actually. Its called 'Blender'. You can get it at www.blender3d.comIts maybe not quite as good as maya or 3dmax (no fur or paint effects) BUT it is free AND opensource AND small. About 9 MB. Which is really kickass I'm starting to work with it and I think its very user-friendly, though NOT in the manner of it helps you alot, but if you know how to do it and find stuff its really great. It has keyboard shortcuts for almost everything. So it takes time to get used to the interface but its definitely a great piece of software
